This policy covers the Reframe Journal iOS app and this website. It explains what information is collected, why, who processes it, and your rights regarding that information.

The short version: your journal entries are stored locally on your device. They leave your device only if you explicitly trigger an AI reframe. We do not sell your data to anyone, and we do not use your data for advertising.

Your journal entries are written to local storage on your device only. They are not uploaded to our servers or to any third party as part of normal app operation.

If iCloud sync is enabled in a future version, your data will be encrypted end-to-end and tied to your personal iCloud account, which only you control.

The app uses iOS UserDefaults exclusively to store app preferences and settings — not journal content.

When you request an AI reframe, the text of your thought is sent to OpenAI via their API to generate a helpful response. This transmission is conditional — it only occurs when you explicitly invoke the AI feature. Journaling without requesting a reframe does not send your content anywhere.

What is sent

The text you have entered when you tap "Reframe" or equivalent. We minimize the payload to what is necessary to generate a useful response — no device identifiers, no account information, and no content from other entries.

Purpose

Solely to generate the reframe response returned to you in-app. The output is not stored, indexed, or used by us for any other purpose.

Our retention

We do not log or retain your journal text on our servers beyond what is transiently necessary to forward the request to OpenAI and return the response to your device. We do not build a record of your reframe history server-side.

OpenAI's processing

Once the payload reaches OpenAI, their API data usage policy applies. By default, OpenAI does not use API inputs to train its models. You can review their retention and processing commitments at platform.openai.com/docs/models/how-we-use-your-data.

For your privacy, we encourage you not to include highly sensitive personal identifiers — such as full names, addresses, or financial account numbers — in entries you submit for reframing. The AI works best with the emotional essence of your thoughts, not specific personal details.

We use PostHog for product analytics. This helps us understand which features are useful and how to improve the app. Your journal text is never included in any analytics event.

Data categories collected

Per our Apple Privacy Manifest, the app collects the following data types, both linked to your account identity and not used for cross-app tracking:

• User ID — a stable account identifier associated with your sign-in, used to connect usage events to a single user account for analytics and app functionality.
• Email address — collected only if you sign in with email or if Apple shares a relay address on first sign-in. Used solely for analytics association and occasional product-feedback outreach (see below). Never used for advertising or sold to third parties.

In addition, PostHog receives standard coarse usage events (e.g. which screens you visit, which features you use) and device/app metadata (app version, OS version, device model) as part of normal analytics SDK operation.

Purpose

Analytics data is used exclusively to understand product usage and improve app quality. It is not used for advertising, cross-app behavioral tracking, or the sale of user data. Our Privacy Manifest declares NSPrivacyTracking: false with no tracking domains.

Email outreach

If we have an email address on file (real or Apple relay), we may use it to reach out for product feedback only — for example, if you stop using the app and we want to understand why. We do not use it for promotional marketing, and we do not share it with third parties for any purpose.

Sign in with Apple

If you use "Sign in with Apple" with email hiding enabled, we receive only Apple's private relay address. It functions identically to a real email for our feedback use and is not resolvable to your personal email by us.

PostHog's processing

PostHog processes analytics data under their privacy policy. You can request deletion of your data by emailing us at the address above.
